07 september 2018

Valladolid will become the capital of European Smart Cities on September 20 and 21, with the celebration of BY & FOR CITIZENS conference. This event aims to be a reference forum in the field of intelligent and sustainable urban regeneration, combining axes such as energy efficiency, information and communication technologies, nature based solutions, sustainable mobility and circular economy.

The conference, which will be held at the Centro Cultural Miguel Delibes (Valladolid), is organised by CARTIF Technology Centre, in collaboration with the Institute for Business Competitiveness of the Government of Castilla y León and the City Council of Valladolid.

BY & FOR CITIZENS will bring together experts and local, national and international authorities who will share their experiences and knowledge, discuss the challenges of urban transformation and propose innovative solutions. The format will be participatory and there will be conferences, presentations, round tables and technical visits.

To support technologists, researchers and technicians, the conference will be opened by the Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera; the president of Castilla y León, Juan Vicente Herrera; and the mayor of Valladolid, Óscar Puente.

The conference will be organised in different blocks. In terms of the technical program, 60 first-level speakers will discuss the role of the citizen in the cities of the future, the concept of circular economy in urban environments, the most advanced technological solutions in energy efficiency, electric mobility and ICTs and the introduction of solutions based on nature in cities.

These presentations and debates will be complemented with guided visits to the neighbourhoods and districts rehabilitated in Valladolid and province through the projects coordinated by CARTIF. Among them, the district of Torrelago in Laguna de Duero, the neighbourhood of Cuatro de Marzo and Fasa in Valladolid, and the electric vehicle charging infrastructure available in different parts of the city.

In addition, the business opportunities between companies will be strengthened through bilateral meetings to be held within the framework of the Enterprise Europe Network, which is the largest global network of support for SMEs in the international framework. The EEN is present in 60 countries, gathers 3000 experts and has more than 600 members.
