CENIT FENIX Project

This project is aimed at promoting the construction of traffic infrastructures that not only guarantee freedom of movement, but also encourage sustainability. The study on environmental feasibility, manufacturing process, transport, control and set up (spreading and compaction) of various kinds of asphalt mixes, intersects with this project.

This approach is particularly fascinating because it makes possible to identify the environmental critical points and design areas of environmental improvement on, for example, the innovative manufacturing technologies of warm and semi-warm bituminous mixtures, the recycling techniques, or the development of energy-efficient manufacturing plants, quantitatively assessing, from the environmental viewpoint, methods like the use of wastes or by-products (e.g. fuels in the plants), or the increase of the percentage of hot and cold recycling, so as to manufacture asphalt at lower temperatures, increase the resilience of these pavements, and minimize consumption and emission.
