Modeling, identification, and control of physiological systems

The line of modeling, identification, andcontrol of physiological systems is a macro-line that includes three different aspects. The first one is the modeling of physiological systems, and it tries to create models that allow predicting a system’s evolution and that can support the healthcare professionals. Our activities in the modeling area put special emphasis on the cardiovascular system with conduction disorders. The second one is the identification of risk parameters based on the capture of biosignals directly from the patient.

electrodosWe mostly center on the variables modulated by the autonomic nervous system. For that we count with the collaboration of the teaching clinical hospital in Valladolid. The third and last aspect is the control of physiological systems, particularly the cardiovascular. Within this aspect we are focused on the generation of algorithms for pacemakers, which can identify different kinds of arrhythmia and can act in the right way according to circumstances.

The main activities on this line of work are:

  • Detection and classification of arrhythmias: application to implantable defibrillators, and technical assistance to treatment using ablation.
  • Development of tools for the diagnosis and prognosis of vegetative neuropathies and microvascular complications in diabetic patients.
  • ECG signal analysis: detection of waves, events, and intervals.
