The activities of the Biomedical Engineering area, within the Cartif Foundation, are aimed at placing at the disposal of healthcare workers the tools provided by the engineering as aid to the research, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses; and for the improvement of the technological systems currently in use on the various healthcare areas.

biomedica1Biomedical Engineering is the discipline that applies the engineering principles and methods to the understanding, definition, and solution of problems in biology and medicine. We view it as “Engineering for Health.” To that end, our activities are connected by the common concept of “Healthcare Technologies Integration,” combining the results of our lines of work so as to give solutions in the fields of application toward which we focus our activity.

The goals of the Biomedical Engineering area are:

  • The development of new techniques, methods, and implementing procedures in the clinical practice as well as in the sector’s industry and biomedical research.
  • Their transference to the involved sectors.

Lines of Work

modelado-link

Modeling, identification, and control of physiological systems

The modeling of physiological systems intends to create models that allow the prediction of a system’s evolution, and that can give support to healthcare professionals.

roboticaycontrol-link

Robotics and Control applied to healthcare

The service robotics is a discipline whose objective is to use robots in non-industrial environments.

Information Technologies in the healthcare field

The information technologies act as support and fundamental element of the R&D+I Line, making easier the integration of Healthcare Technologies.

Application Areas

Diagnosis and treatment

We focus first and foremost on two large groups of illnesses: Diabetes and all its complications, and all kinds of cardiac arrhythmia.

Rehabilitation and support

The therapy of upper limbs is used on neurorehabilitation for patients with paralyzed limbs as a result of lesions to the central or peripheral nervous system.

Hospital services

The hospital management systems have acquired a great importance in a time when the concept of “healthcare quality” continues to spread and the optimization of all the patient-related services is sought.
