Behavioural Modelling for Security in Airports

The main objective of this project is to develop a dynamic and realistic model of social behaviour during threats in airports, bearing in mind the limits of human behaviour. This model will provide the basis for training programs and will assist the behavioural management through incidents.

EN-X-OLIVE

Project focused on the integral recovery of waste from the production of olive oil. Done in collaboration with other research centres, like Fraunhofer IGB, this work will result in the development of a procedure for the complete recovery of waste from two or three-phase olive mills, in order to obtain compounds with high added value; antioxidant compounds like tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol, which can be used in sectors like the food or pharmaceutical ones; and energy, through the production of biogas from waste generated during the process.

This development will be carried out from laboratory scale to a process level at pilot scale, where the diverse variables that have influence on the process will be evaluated
to improve the final results.

Cartif will employ different extraction and purification techniques, such as tangential filtration systems (micro and ultrafiltration), systems of purification by resins, etc. For the processes control it will use antioxidant capacity analysis, like Folin, DPPH, ORAC, and HPLC analysis for the identification of the obtained compounds.

WHETLAC

In this project, work is being done on the transformation of deproteinized whey from the cheese manufacture in order to efficiently and profitably obtain lactic acid through fermentation processes using immobilized microorganisms, process control through NIR technology, and extraction by means of green chemistry strategies.

USEandDIFUSSE

This is a project focused on improving the dissemination and exploitation of the research results and facilitating the exchange of best practices in this field.

USEandDIFUSSE is a project that has a long way ahead, and will continue for another two years. The next objective is to write a best practices manual in the next few months, which will be available, free of charge, at the project website: http://www.useandsiffuse.ue/

FORBIOPLAST

The main idea is to use wood fibers to substitute glass fibers on the manufacture of the interior and exterior of vehicles. This way, renewable materials could be used, which would also have application in packaging and the agriculture sector.

Cartif's Biomass Area is in charge of the section of the project focused on performing a market survey and identifying the most suitable materials.

GENESYS

Project intended to promote best practices for the development of advanced ICT systems applied to energy efficiency systems.

The GENESYS project is meant to carry out actions that will support the awareness and the dissemination of actual R&D results about energy management systems in a wide arena such Europe, India and the USA.

In this technological context GENESYS project consortium will collect and analyse research results on efficiency and energy management systems (EMS), will map all the achieved results and idea available at European level in the main selected technological fields, and and identify opportunities for integration and applications to further complex or cross cutting areas, thus to favour their market exploitation.

CLET

This project has two objectives:

To develop a system able to detect the typical flaws in laser welding. It will be designed for both the Nd:YAG and the CO2 laser, and various kinds of materials, like steel, stainless steel and aluminium.

Developing a feedforward controller able to set the process parameters according to the signals generated by the detection system. In this way the disturbances that can cause flaws can be rejected and the final product quality will be asured. Besides, the adaptation to new specimens will be simpler, which is of great interest for the SMEs that manufacture in small batches.
