Construction
During the last few decades a growing interest has risen about the different ways to lessen the vibration level that affects people as well as the diverse structural systems. Examples of these kinds of situations are the movements that civil works of all kinds suffer when affected by environmental phenomena (like blasts of wind, earthquakes, and dynamic load due to daily use.)
As a result, the researchers from the Structural Control area work on advanced systems for vibration dampening, for their application in pedestrian bridges and tower cranes.
In addition, the Structural Design area works on the design of a structural system as support on building/construction and civil works, through ergonomics and productivity criteria, which results in a diminishing of assembly and disassembly times, and therefore increasing productivity.
In the energy efficiency field, the researchers from different areas work together on the design of a new construction solution that incorporates phase change materials and solar cells, which allows constructions more energetically efficient, diminishing the heating and air conditioning consumption.
We work on the implementation of intelligent environments, aimed at achieving energy efficiency at homes.
